Where on earth can we find “Forward Corte”?
「前進コルテ」ってないの？

It is natural to think that if there is the Back Corte in Tango, there must also be a Forward Corte, just as there is a Backward Lock Step for the Forward Lock Step in Quickstep. However, there is no Forward Corte in teacher’s textbooks, so for a long time I wanted to confirm its existence.
So, when I found “Forward Corte” in “Self-Tutor of Ballroom Dancing” (by Santos Casani, translated by Jiro Takimoto, published 1930), which I introduced last time, I was overjoyed. However, as a matter of course, the Forward Corte written there was the Back Corte for Lady danced by Man.
As you can see from the foot patterns of Back Corte (last post) and this time’s Forward Corte, the way of dancing that Mr. Casani explains is straight, and there is no rotation as seen in the modern Back Corte. And when I try to use it with a rotation (i.e. today’s Lady’s Back Corte dance by Man), I find myself getting confused and cannot dance along the LOD nice and smooth.
I don’t know if that’s the reason, but it seems that the Forward Corte with rotation has not been included since the Ballroom Dance textbook came out.

「フィガー名の思い出33 フォワード・コルテ」
クイックステップのフォワード・ロック・ステップに対するバックワード・ロック・ステップがあるように、タンゴのバック・コルテがあるならフォワード・コルテもあるのではないか、と考えるのは自然なことではないでしょうか。でも、教師用テキストにはフォワード・コルテは出ていないので、長いこと、その存在を確かめたいと思っていました。
それで、前回紹介した「社交ダンス獨習」（サントス・カサニ著／瀧本二郎補訳／昭和５年発行）に「前進コルテ」を見つけた時には、ひとりで大喜びしたものです。ですが、当然と言えば当然なのですが、そこに書かれていた前進コルテは、男性が踊る女性のバック・コルテだったのです。
前回のバック・コルテと今回のフォワード・コルテの足型図から分かるように、カサニ氏が解説する踊り方は直線的で、現代のバック・コルテのような回転が入っていません。しかし、回転を入れた（つまり、男性が現代の女性のバック・コルテを踊る）形で使ってみようとすると、頭が混乱し、ＬＯＤを順守して動けなくなってしまう自分がいます。
それが理由かどうかは分かりませんが、ボールルーム・ダンスの教師用テキストが出た当初から、回転の入るフォワード・コルテは入っていないようです。
