Since October 2011, I have been posting articles titled “Memories of Figure Names” on Facebook group “Ballroom & Latin Dancer Memory Lane”. I decided to leave those articles on this HP for record.
2011年10月からFacebookグループ”Ballroom & Latin Dancer Memory Lane”に「フィガー名の思い出」という記事を投稿しています。 これらの記事を記録のためにこのHPに残すことにしました。
“Memories of Figure Names No.17 Cha Cha Cha”
Cha Cha Cha is of course not a figure name but I would like to share a pleasant memory about this dance and music name.
One day, while researching on “Sonny Watson’s StreetSwing com” website, I found to my surprise the following,
“The words Cha-Cha hail from certain plants, producing seed pods in the West Indies called Cha-Cha (in Spanish means nursemaid.)” !
It further goes,
“These seed pods are used to make a small rattle called a Cha- Cha (maracas.) This instrument is used kinda like a metronome by certain bands.” !
Until then, I wasn’t aware the musical instrument “maracas” is a plural form of maraca! I was also surprised to learn there is a tree of maraca.
「フィガー名の思い出 17 Cha Cha Cha」
フィガー名ではありませんが、単にチャチャとかトリプル・マンボと呼ばれることのある「チャチャチャ」を調べていた時に驚いた楽しい思い出を書きます。
ある日、”Sonny Watson’s StreetSwing com”というサイトで調べていると、なんと、
チャチャチャの名は西インド諸島の植物からきています。
と書いてあるではありませんか！ そして、その先を読み進むと、
この植物はチャチャ（スペイン語で子守りのこと）と呼ばれるさや状の種を作りカタカタ音を出します。これをメトロノームのようにして使う楽団もあります。このさやは、小さなチャチャ（マラカス）の楽器に使われます。
マラカスがマラカの複数形と分かったのも驚きでしたし、マラカの木があることも驚きでした。
